For the launch of the new T.O by Lipton tea machine, Tribal Worldwide London and adam&eveDDB enlisted The Mill’s help in creating a spectacular film, directed by Saam Farahmand out of Rogue Films. Using Cirque du Soleil performers dancing with fluid and organic movement to represent different flavours of tea, the film is a visually powerful impression of the T.O by Lipton machine.A thirty-five strong team at The Mill worked to give the greatest clarity to Farahmand’s groundbreaking vision in this otherworldly spot, ensuring that the look was entirely seamless from start to finish.From the outset it was clear that this was going to be a challenging VFX job for The Mill’s 3D team and it presented an exciting opportunity to break new ground by creating hyper-realistic liquid simulations.A huge amount of R&D with Faramand was carried out upfront, studying how different materials moved in water, from inks, oils and paints, to bubbles, powders and other particle matter. Carrying out this amount of research allowed for the team to be able to recreate all of these effects in different conditions.Because the fluids would quickly contaminate the tanks, most of the scenes were shot clean, in a water tank. This enabled the performers to do their thing without being hindered by wires and cables.
