Boris FX has released Boris Continuum Complete 10 for After Effects and Premiere Pro: a major new update to its collection of effects plugins, following its release for Avid Media Composer last October. (Spoiler: it actually came out last month, but we missed it in the Christmas rush.) The update reflects Boris FX’s recent acquisition by Imagineer Systems, in the shape of the integration of Imagineer’s mocha planar tracking engine inside BCC’s PixelChooser masking and keying tools. It also adds new skin retouching, titling and image-restoration tools, plus new filters and transitions.

Boris FX says that while mocha integration is intended to simplify routine tasks like blurring faces or isolating filters, the system is capable of full-blown rotoscoping work. Other suggested uses include tracking lens flares, corner pins, titles and graphics to footage.

New skin retouching, titling and image restoration toolsThe update also adds a range of new tools to the collection, including BCC Beauty Studio (above), a skin-retouching tool designed for the digital makeup work often required when working with HD or 4K footage. It uses a “state-of-the-art keying algorithm” to isolate skin tones automatically, making it easier to remove skin blemishes without sacrificing sharpness or contrast in other parts of the image. The update also adds BCC Title Studio, a new OpenGL-accelerated titling tool, intended for creating 2D or 3D titles, lower thirds and credit sequences, and capable of importing models from Cinema 4D. BCC Remover auto-fills missing pixels and clones out unwanted objects, BCC Dropout Fixer restores dropouts in tape-based footage, while BCC Reframe reformats cellphone footage into 16:9 format for broadcast.
