Fabric Software has announced that it is integrating Fabric Engine, its framework for developing high-performance VFX tools, with Modo. Fabric Engine for Modo will go on show at FMX 2015 this week. Increasing support for Modo within VFX pipelinesThe announcement is an interesting reflection of the renewed attention Modo has been getting in the visual effects world since Luxology, its original developer, merged with The Foundry in 2012. “Customers have been asking us to integrate Fabric Engine with Modo because Modo is becoming increasingly important in their pipeline,” commented Fabric Software chief executive Paul Doyle. Houdini integration coming soon; Cinema 4D and Unreal Engine in developmentIn a post on the company’s blog, Doyle also announced that the integration with Houdini – first announced over a year ago – will be in beta “in a few weeks”. Both integrations in the early stages of development, and there’s no hint at a public release schedule. AvailabilityFabric Engine for Modo is expected to be available for download “in the Siggraph timeframe” – that is, late summer. That suggests that the upcoming Fabric Engine 2.0 and Splice for 3ds Max will also have been released by that point, although there’s no mention of them in the FMX announcement.
